Originally called Anaguluskee, meaning “Flowers on the branch”, it was home to many farmers raising stock in the early 19th century. Flowery Branch was established in 1874 shortly after the Richmond and Danville Air-line Railroad Railway System provided a rail line through the city connecting Charlotte to Atlanta.


Flowery Branch is a small town within the Northeast Georgia Mountain region and is an ideal location for individuals and families interested in outdoor recreational activities. Among some of these activities is Lake Sidney Lanier where you can enjoy kayaking or swimming, boating or just sit on the banks and enjoy the amazing view. People also enjoy making the short drive to Lake Lanier Islands, one of the most popular destinations in the state of Georgia. Lake Lanier Islands features a wide variety of activities like golf, ziplining, spas, hiking trails, campgrounds and a large and beautiful waterpark.

Flowery Branch is a part of the Hall County School system, providing preschool through grade twelve, which is known for being among the best in the state for their educational facilities. The city is not far from North Georgia University – Gainesville Campus as well as many of the higher educational facilities heading toward Atlanta.

With the strive to continue to improve, the city is constantly renovating the historical buildings that make up the downtown area as well as the train depot. The city hosts the Historic Caboose exhibit and the Historic Train Depot museum. Along with the improvements is the newly built Atlanta Falcons Facility where the Falcon’s train since the start of the 2005 season.
