Flowery Branch was established in 1874 shortly after the Richmond and Danville Air-line Railroad Railway System provided a rail line through the city connecting Charlotte to Atlanta.

The city is not far from North Georgia University – Gainesville Campus as well as many of the higher educational facilities heading toward Atlanta.
With the strive to continue to improve, the city is constantly renovating the historical buildings that make up the downtown area as well as the train depot. The city hosts the Historic Caboose exhibit and the Historic Train Depot museum. Along with the improvements is the newly built Atlanta Falcons Facility where the Falcon’s train since the start of the 2005 season.
