Dawsonville Real Estate

Dawsonville real estate offers the best place to live in. Dawsonville is the county seat of Dawson County and is approximately 57 miles north of Atlanta. Founded in 1857 it was incorporated as a town in 1859 and as a city in 1952. Named after the state senator William Crosby Dawson. Dawsonville is known for many things, moonshine, auto racing and Amicalola Falls being the three highlights.

Dawson County was known to be a significant source of illegal moonshine for Atlanta during and after the prohibition era. Many would modify their cars for better speed and handling to evade police when delivering their cargo. It soon became a competition to see who was able to build the fastest vehicle and from there NASCAR was born. Each year Dawsonville has a festival called the Mountain Moonshine Festival to bring the history alive!

Auto Racing is well known in Dawsonville and began as a consequence of the moonshine activity in the area. Dawsonville is home to the retired NASCAR driver Bill Elliott, who won the Winston Cup championship in 1988 and was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2015, as well as his son Chase Elliott who currently races in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup series. The Dawsonville siren goes off to let residence know that a racing accomplishment has occurred by Bill or Chase! Check out the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame to find out more fun facts!

Amicalola Falls which is 15 miles north of the center of Dawsonville boosts a state park, lodging, paddle boarding, fishing, hiking trails, wilderness guides, campgrounds, zip-lining and of course restaurants.

As well as the Moonshine Festival there are many other events and entertainment occurring within Dawsonville that are fun for the entire family!

For those that like the outdoors, there are activities such as horseback riding, waterfalls, walking trails as well as the start of the Appalachian Trail which is approximately 8 miles north of the center of Dawsonville. Let’s not forget about Uncle Shucks Corn Maze, Burt’s Farm and Amicalola State Park and Lodge where you can see the 729 foot waterfall!
